What is phonics?

Phonics is a method of teaching kids to read that involves matching sounds to the alphabet. The phonics method helps the kids to read and write the words easily because the names of the letters are different from the sounds of the letters. Phonics can be taught in a variety of ways. There are four types of Phonics

Sounds Of Jolly Phonics

Jolly Phonics is a widely used phonics program that is taught in a systematic, story, and fun-based manner which grasps kids’ interest to learn the letter sounds easily. It helps in better letter formation, develops good spelling knowledge, and develops reading ability in kids. The sounds of the letters are divided into 7 groups. Each group has a set of alphabets and its sound.

Perfect Age to Start the Program

The perfect age to start is around 3 to 4. Nowadays they are taught simultaneously with the letters so that the kids can easily grasp the sound with the letters. It also helps the kids to learn the language to read and write more easily.

How does this Program improve spelling?

Most of them conclude that phonics helps kids in spelling because they learn the letter sounds which are easy for them to grasp the sound of the letter and write them as words. Suppose, if your teaching the word “MAT” pronounce the word loudly with its sound “M A T”. The child grasps the letter sound and writes the word easily. By regular, practice kids can spell 6 to 7 letter words easily. It improves kids reading and writing skills more confidently.

Phonemic Awareness

Each Phonics program has its own method of teaching. In Jolly Phonics first letter sounds are taught simultaneously with short stories and actions. Then they start with the CVC ( Consonant Vowels Consonant ) words, letter formation, blending and segmenting. Finally, some tricky words and sight words are taught. All together the kids start reading short sentences and stories which leads them to excel in vocabulary and fluency.

Most schools encourage phonics because kids start reading and writing more easily. Most of the teachers who train teachers say that they teach phonics programs and they start teaching kids at the kindergarten level.

Activities of Teaching Phonics
